Keylong is one of the most important tourist places of Himachal Pradesh,India and is the administrative center of Lahaul and Spiti. Indo-Tibetanborder is just 120 kms away from Keylong and lies on the famous Manali-Leh Highway. The major attractions here are monasteries, most famous of which is Kardang Monastery, which dates back to 12th Century, however it was in ruin still 1912 before it was renovated by Lama Norbu Rinpoche. Keylong is also famous for nearby Rohtang Pass which attracts a lot of tourists globally. Thebest time to visit Keylong is during summers from May to June. During wintersthere is heavy snowfall in the region and it becomes inaccessible. During Julyand August Keylong hosts Lahaul Festival, with varieties of cultural activities and a big and busy market.

Kardang Monastery

Kardang Monastery or Gompa is a popular Drukpa Lineage monastery located on the bank of Bhaga River, which is about 5 kms away from Keylong, Kardang Monastery is known for Kangya and Tangyar volumes of Buddhist scriptures. The Monastery was constructed in the 12th century AD, which was associated with the Drukpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Kardang Monastery is also famous all over the world for its religious and cultural significance with attractive architecture. It is a house of small collections of murals, paintings, Thangka paintings, old weapons and musical instrumentals like horns, flutes, drums, etc.  

Tayul Monastery

Tayul Monastery or Tayul Gompa is one of most popular and the oldest Buddhist monasteries in the Bhaga Valley, Keylong. It is located about 6 kmsaway from the Keylong main town. There is a huge library and a 12 foot big statue of Guru Padmasambhava.

Shashur Monastery

Shashur Monastery (also known as Sashur Monastery) is a famous Buddhistmonastery of the Drugpa sect, situated at about 04 kms from Keylong, it was builtby Lama Deva Gyatsho in the 17th century, who was a missionary of Nawang Namgyal,the king of Bhutan. Shashur Monastery is another major attraction of the town.It is known for its beautiful paintings of the history of the 84 Buddha.

Gandhola Monastery or Guru Ghantal monastery

Guru Ghantal Monastery (Also known as Gandhola Monastery) monastery is another major attraction of this region. It is the second oldest famous monastery of the region, which is situated about 8kms from Keylong.

Kelang Wazir Temple

Kelang Wazir Temple is a small temple in the house of Shri. NawangDorje. It is dedicated to the local deity Kelang Wazir Permission is required to visit the temple.

Lahaul & Spiti Tribal Museum

Lahaul & Spiti Tribal Museum is another major attraction of Keylong.  It is the home of traditional costumes, old traditional masks used in dances, treasures from various Gompas, stone utensils, archaeological; and anthropological artefacts, farm etc.

Baralacha La Pass

Baralacha La Pass is located at the height of about 4,890 m above the sea level, Baralacha La is a high mountain pass in Zanskar range. It is situated at 76kms from keylong Valley. Baralacha La means “pass with cross roads on summit”, the roads from Ladakh, Spiti and Lahaul cross at the summit. 

Gemur Monastery

Gemur Monastery is situated at about 18kms away from keylong Valley, Gemur Monastery is one of the oldest monastery of this region, which is date back to around 700 years ago. It is known for its amazing arts and crafts of Buddhist origin.

Triloknath Temple

Triloknath Temple is situated at the distance of about 50kms from Keylong. It is one of the oldest temple of this region and is believed that it is more than 5000 years old.
It is the holiest temple in Hindus and Buddhists both religion. The temple is dedicated to as Lord Shiva by the Hindus and as Lord Avalokiteshwara in Buddhism. 
 

Rohtang Pass

Rohtang Pass is situated  on closed to Manali – Leh highway at  64 kms Keylong, on banks of Beas and Chenab River. Rohtang Pass is located at an altitude of 3,978 meters above the sea level on the foothill of eastern hills of the PirPanjal Range. It open from Jun to October. On the way you can explore Nehru Kothi and Rahalla falls.
